Warangal police arrest inter-state chain snatching gang, recover gold worth Rs 15.20 lakh
Warangal CCS and Hanamkonda police arrested two men from Tamil Nadu involved in multiple chain-snatching incidents targeting women. The accused, Sundaram and Selvaraj, stole a two-wheeler and committed five thefts across Warangal and Andhra Pradesh.

Hanamkonda: Warangal CCS and Hanamkonda police have arrested two persons from Tamil Nadu who were committing chain snatchings by targeting lone women under the limits of Warangal police commissionerate.
Speaking to the media here on Wednesday Commissioner of Police Sunpreet Singh informed that police seized 95 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 15.20 lakh along with one two-wheeler and two mobile phones from the accused.
One of the accused Kalyana Sundaram from Madurai in Tamil Nadu became addicted to ganja and resorted to stealing mobile phones and two-wheelers. He was arrested on multiple occasions and was sent to jail.
After being released from prison, Sundaram worked briefly as a salesman at a mobile phone shop, during which time he became acquainted with the other accused, Selvaraj. In order to make easy money the duo decided to snatch gold jewellery from lone women in the streets and arrived in Warangal city last month.
They stole a two-wheeler under the limits of Mattewada police station. They committed five chain-snatching thefts; two in Subedari police station limits, one each in Hanamkonda and KUC police stations limits and one in the Kurnool three-town area of Andhra Pradesh.
The police formed special teams led by Central Zone DCP Dara Kavitha; initiated an investigation and identified the accused. Maintaining surveillance on their movements, the police intercepted them as they returned to Warangal intending to commit further chain-snatchings.
They were caught while travelling from Hanamkonda bus stand towards Public Garden on a stolen motorcycle and the stolen property was recovered from their possession, the CP Sunpreet Singh said.
The CP commended DCP Kavitha, additional DCP (Crimes) G Bala Swamy, ACP (Crimes) P Sadaiah, Hanamkonda ACP P Narsimha Rao, CCS Inspectors A Raghavender and K Ramakrishna, Hanamkonda Inspector Shiva Kumar and Subedari Inspector Ranjith for nabbing the accused.
