Warangal Urban: Construction of State’s second largest police headquarters at Warangal, which include an integrated command control centre and public interference facility, is moving at snail’s pace due to reasons best known to the officials of the Police Department.
Warangal Police Commissionerate was in dire need of an administrative building since it started functioning from June 12, 2015. The foundation stone for the construction of the police headquarters was laid on May 29, 2017, with an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore. However, the construction of the building has only reached the basement level till date.
Though the police headquarters building is not as big as it’s Hyderabad headquarters which is under construction, the seven-storey swanky edifice planned on five acres of land is meant for Commissioner’s office, office of Deputy Commissioner of Police, City Special Branch, City Crime Record Bureau, armed reserve, communications and city security wings.
Speaking to Telangana Today, an official said that the construction of Siddipet Commissionerate, Khammam Commissionerate and Warangal Urban Collectorate which were started at almost the same time were completed. “The Siddipet and Khammam commissionerate buildings have already been inaugurated,” he added.
It may be noted here that Commissionerate has a command area of 5,672 sq km with a population of around 23 lakh. It is learnt that the contracting agency had almost stopped works as they ‘suffered heavy cost’ due to digging of the foundation which has a rocky terrain. When contacted for comments, Warangal Police Commissioner Tarun Joshi did not respond.
