Warangal Urban: With the State Election Commission (SEC) gearing up for the municipal elections to the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC), the reservation of wards was finalised here on Thursday.
District Collector and District Election Authority Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu issued a notification finalising the reservation of wards. While there are a total of 66 wards in the GWMC, two wards have been reserved for STs and 11 wards for SCs. The number of wards reserved for BCs is 20, and the number of wards reserved for general women is 17. The remaining 16 are unreserved wards.
The reservation of wards was finalised through draw of lots at a meeting held at the Collector’s office in the presence of representatives of recognised political parties. While the total number of voters as per the latest list is 6,52,978, officials have reportedly decided to set up 878 polling stations in 298 centres spread in the 66 wards.
A total of 800 voters can cast their vote at a polling station. The GWMC officials have also identified Lal Bahadur College in Warangal, and University Arts and Science College in Hanamkonda as the centres for receiving nominations. The counting of votes will take place at Delhi Public School premises.
