Warangal: Even after two days gone by since a statue of former MLA late Peddi Sudharshan Reddy was unveiled at Sarvapuram on the outskirts of Narsampet town in the district the controversy over the statue’s installation continues.

BRS cadres along with Warangal East former MLA Nannapuneni Narender staged a protest at Sarvapuram village on Wednesday alleging that the district administration and police were trying to remove the statue.

A large number of police personnel were deployed at the village in view of the protest by the BRS cadres. Warangal East Zone DCP Ankit Kumar Sahkhwar, Narsampet ACP P Ravinder Reddy and other senior officials tried to persuade the protesting cadres to vacate the place while assuring them that they were not going to remove the statue.

However, the BRS cadres continued their protest seeking a firm assurance from the officials. The BRS leaders later submitted a representation to Narsampet RDO Uma Rani, requesting that the statue of former MLA Sudarshan Reddy be allowed to remain at the site where it was installed.

In their representation, the BRS leaders urged that the statue not be removed under any circumstances. The district administration was attempting to remove Sudarshan Reddy’s statue out of vindictiveness, the cadres alleged.

It might be recalled that last Sunday Narsampet municipal staff demolished the pedestal built to install the statue. The next day the BRS cadres rebuilt the pedestal and installed the statue of Sudharshan Reddy on a private land opposite Government Medical College.
