Warangal: Narsampet MLA Peddi Sudharshan Reddy on Wednesday said Kisan Credit Card scheme will provide financial support to farmers, fishermen, dairy farmers, sheep and goat herders, and urged them to utilize the scheme.
The MLA was speaking at a programme to hand over ID cards to 2,500 persons that will facilitate them to get Kisan Credit Cards from banks at the mini-stadium at Narsampet in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the KCC scheme was aimed at providing adequate and timely credit support from the banking system under a single window for farmers for their cultivation and other needs. “All farmers including tenant farmers and members of the SHGs or Joint Liability Groups of Farmer are eligible to get the KCCs. The KCC serves as a debit card for farmers. With the KCCs, farmers can get Rs 25,000 to Rs 1.60 lakh loans at just seven per cent interest rate. More than 50 per cent of the interest rate i.e. four per cent will be paid by the government to the bankers. However, farmers who have taken a crop loan against agriculture land can’t get the KCCs,” he added.
“KCC cardholder will also have life insurance cover up to Rs two lakh. This KCC card is a boon for farmers who are financially poor,” he said.
The MLA also handed over cheques of bank linkage to the members of the self-help groups (SHGs) issued by the Canara Bank at another programme. The total worth of the loan extended to the members is Rs 8.10 crore to 81 SHGs of five villages of Narsampet mandal.
