Warangal: Task Force police arrest 4 treasure hunters, seize 30 copper coins

Warangal: Task Force sleuths led by Inspector Ch Srinivas and R Santosh apprehended four treasure hunters including a land owner when they were trying to sell 30 old copper coins on Saturday.

In a press note here on Sunday, the police said the arrested were identified as Yara Malla Reddy of Gangadevipally village of Geesugonda mandal, Panjaraboina Srinivas of Guduru village in Mahabubabad, Medidha Krishna of Gangadevipally village of Geesugonda and Yata Purna Chander of Ameenpet of Nekkonda mandal. “We received some credible information that one of the accused, Yara Malla Reddy, who owns 1.8 acres of land in Sy.No.375 at Gangadevipally village of Geesugonda Mandal, with the help of Panjaraboina Srinivas, Medidha Krishna and Yata Purnachander had dug up a five feet deep pit in his land and unearthed 30 old copper coins dating back to 1818, on Jan 23 this year.”

Later, with the help of one Mahesh, they tried to sell the coins in Hyderabad, he said, adding that they nabbed them on Saturday and handed them over to Geesugonda police for further action. Four other accused in the case, Yara Ramanaiah, Yara Rajaiah, Yara Kumaraswmy and Rajireddy of Geesugonda are absconding.
