Warangal: To bring in more transparency and accountability while performing duty, the traffic police personnel have been provided with body-worn cameras (BWC) to capture digital evidence of the offenses.

According to Traffic ACP T Satyanarayana, the cameras were necessitated following complaints of rude behaviour from both the traffic police personnel and the violators.

Because of ensuing arguments and instances of cops manhandling by violators and also complaints of police brutality on motorists, the police commissioner had introduced the body cameras, he said.

The body-worn cameras would not only monitor the activities of the officials and their behavior, but violations of traffic rules of citizens would also be recorded, he said, adding that the initiative would not only increase public confidence, but help enforce traffic laws in a more transparent manner.

“The cameras will improve the quality of evidence, reduce complaints against the police and improve transparency in police work,” the ACP observed.
