Warangal: The Para Sports Association, affiliated to Divyang Cricket Control Board of India, will be holding a wheelchair cricket tri-series on December 27 and 28 at University Arts and Science College, Hanamkonda, Warangal Coordinator A Bharath said.
In a press release on Thursday, he said matches would be held between teams from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. He said the Association was working hard towards developing wheelchair cricket in Telangana, and the first step would be to know the skills and interests of players in wheelchair cricket.
“We conducted a wheelchair cricket workshop on Dec 27, 2020, in Hyderabad that received great response with 60 players joining us, and we conducted our first-ever State-level wheelchair cricket Tri-series on Jan 31, 2021 in Warangal. This tri-series also received tremendous success; the matches attracted local crowds by seeing the players’ passion for the sport. We were appreciated by local governing bodies. We also conducted our first ever Inter-State T20 wheelchair cricket match which was thrilling,” he said and added that they had been invited to represent the Telangana State for DCCBI’s Tri-series which was conducted from March 21 to 23, 2021 held in Rajasthan, Alwar and the wheelchair cricket teams are Rajasthan, Telangana and Baroda, the Host Team Rajasthan.
“We are happy to share with you that our First Telangana wheelchair Cricket team got second place in the Rajasthan Tri-Series Tournament. We have organised Telangana Vs Andhra Pradesh wheelchair Cricket Tournament in SCF Ground, Hyderabad on October 17 and 18, 2021, and Telangana got a clean sweep of all the three matches,” he said adding that the Telangana vs Maharastra best of three held In Mumbai on December 2 and 3 and the match was tied due to bad weather.
