Warangal woman elected to Oman’s Telugu expat body

Hyderabad: A Telangana woman activist has been reelected to the management committee of Oman’s Telugu Kala Samiti (TKS), a prestigious Telugu expatriate organization that works under the aegis of Indian Embassy in Muscat.

The voting was held on Friday, following a hectic two-week campaign. A lone woman, Nagarani Vanamala of Warangal district, successfully made her way into the 9-member management committee. She is also the only person to represent Telangana in the committee.


Nagarani is a leading woman activist in capital Muscat and known for her feminism among the Telugu Diaspora. She was heading the women wing of Telugu Kala Samiti in the previous committee and likely to retain the same in the incoming committee.

The incumbent president of TKS, Chinna Rao Kotturu was also reelected in a fiercely fought election.

Anil Kumar Nagidi, Arun Kumar Sadu, Chetanya Kumar Katikala, Jagnada Mani Peri, Pavan Kumar Vemulapalli, Sita Ram Shakhamuri, Rajashekhar Surapaneni were also elected.
