Hyderabad: Tollywood actor Ram Charan‘s recent visit to the Kadapa Dargah in Andhra pradesh while being on the ‘Ayyappa Deeksha’ received severe backlash from Ayyappa devotees who criticised the actor for not honouring the religious customs.

The actor visited the Dargah as a chief guest for the 80th National Mushaira Ghazal event, reportedly fulfilling a commitment made my legendary music composer AR Rahman.

The Hindu devotees expressing their disappointment demanded that the actor immediately withdraw himself from the ‘Deeksha’ and apologize to all the Ayyappa devotees and the entire Hindu community.

This gesture from the actor also did not go well with the netizens, as the social media was abuzz with criticism, where one user wrote, ” Respecting other religions at what cost? by disrespecting our own religion? If you don’t know the common rules and principles then why to even were Ayyappa Mala,” while one user commented, “Wearing Ayyappa Mala and visiting the death grave is nothing less than a crime.”

Defending the actor, his wife Upasana Konidela posted a photo of the actor at the Dargah on the social media platform ‘X.’ She wrote: “Faiths unites, never divides. As Indians, we honor all paths to the divine. Our strength lies in unity. Ram Charan respecting other religions while following his own.
