Hyderabad: A cockroach in their sambar rice at a popular hotel in Begumpet left two friends flummoxed on Thursday.
GS Rana and his friend Suresh said they had gone to Minerva Hotel located in Tourism Plaza and ordered sambar rice in the lunch hours. However, they allege finding a cockroach in the dish served to them and brought it to the notice of the hotel management. A complaint was also made by them with the food safety wing of the municipal administration.
Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’, Rana lamented the lack of hygiene and care at the hotel which is popular for its cuisine and well regarded for its maintenance. “Insects in food is a serious matter. It could cause food poisoning and harm the health. We brought the issue to the hotel managers and they expressed regrets,” he said.
Rana and Suresh said they were communicating with the food safety authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
