Hyderabad: The BRS slammed the Congress government for encouraging violence and resorting to diversionary tactics to cover up its failures. Party leaders criticized the ruling party in the wake of an attack by Congress workers on Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao’s camp office and the subsequent police lathi-charge on BRS workers who tried to resist the assault.

Former Agriculture Minister S. Niranjan Reddy condemned the incident, terming the attack on the MLA’s camp office a symbol of the collapsing democracy in the state. He said that, unable to fulfill its poll promises, the Congress government was indulging in petty politics.

“Instead of stopping the attackers, the police lathi-charged BRS workers who stood in defense of the public office. This is shameful for the government,” he said.

BRS Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra termed the incident an attempt to distract public attention from the Congress government’s non-performance. He stated that the ruling party leaders were encouraging such attacks to divert people’s attention from their failure across all sectors. He also criticized the biased and excessive police action targeting the BRS cadre.

“Instead of restraining the Congress workers, the police attacked the BRS cadre who were guarding public property,” the MP said, demanding criminal cases against the Congress attackers and proper medical care for the injured BRS activists.

Former Minister and MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy also condemned the attack on KT Rama Rao’s office, hitting out at the Congress government for its oppressive regime. He said the attack was in response to Rama Rao exposing the failures of the Revanth Reddy government.

He warned the Congress against testing the patience of the BRS activists and cautioned the police against indulging in political issues.
