Nalgonda: A high-speed chase unfolded on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway with a vehicle lifter speeding away with a 108 ambulance that he stole from Hayathnagar, with the police going on a two-hour long wild pursuit for over 150 km early on Saturday.
The thief, driving the stolen ambulance with its siren blaring, sped away from Hayathnagar, causing chaos all along the highway. Police stations along the highway were alerted.
The thief managed to evade capture multiple times during the chase, venturing even to run over an ASI, John Reddy at Chityala, leaving the cop severely injured. John Reddy was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad for treatment, where his condition was stated to be critical.
The thief, who continued his escape, crashed through the gate at the Korlapahad toll gate. Chasing him further, the police set up a roadblock lining up trucks across the highway at Tekumatla in Suryapet mandal where the two and a half hour long pursuit culminated in the arrest of the vehicle-lifter. He is said to be involved in a series of major thefts.
