As Neeraj Chopra bagged Gold for India at the Tokyo Olympics, the whole country was on its toes celebrating the historical moment. And former India cricket captain and opener Sunil Gavaskar, being one among them, also couldn’t resist from celebrating the Javelin thrower’s victory.
Gavasakar along with a sweet bite of jalebi started dancing on the Bollywood song, “Mere Desh Ki Dharti Sona Ugle, Ugle Heeray Moti” while simultaneously commentating on the first Test between India and England at the Trent Bridge here on Saturday.
The song “Mere Desh Ki Dharti Sona Ugle, Ugle Heeray Moti” is from the 1966 film, ‘Upkaar’ starring Manoj Kumar.
Gavaskar was also joined by his co-commentators – former South Africa all-rounder Shaun Pollock and media personality Harsha Bhogle for the jalebi celebrations.
Neeraj made history by becoming the first Indian to win Gold in track and field at the Olympic Games. He is the second Indian to win an individual Olympic gold after Abhinav Bindra in the 2008 Games in Beijing. Chopra’s gold was India’s 10th in Olympic history. Eight of those have been won by the hockey team, the last of which came in 1980.
