Hyderabad: A pregnant woman suffered grievous injuries and hospitalisation after she was allegedly attacked with cement brick and sticks by her husband at Gachibowli.
The incident which occurred on April 1, came to light after the video footage of the assault went viral on social media on Sunday.
Mohd Basrath (32), an interior worker and his wife Shabana Parveen (22), both natives of Aditya Nagar in Hafeezpet, had a love marriage in October 2024.
As per available information, allegedly on Parveen’s pressure, Basrath who was earlier staying with his parents, had to come out of the house and live separately with his wife in a rented house.
Since then, the couple had frequent fights over it and other trivial matters. Recently, Parveen, who was four months pregnant, complained of ill health and was admitted to the hospital on March 29. After recovering, she was discharged on April 1 night.
It was then, while returning home, the couple again had an argument over a trivial matter and Basrath, who got angry, pushed Parveen on the road and abused and attacked her. He further grabbed a cement brick from the road and hit her multiple times on the head, resulting in grievous injuries.
Fearing that she had died, Basrath fled from the spot.
The Gachibowli police reached the spot and shifted her to the hospital, where she is being treated. Her condition is said to be critical.
Basrath was taken into custody and remanded in judicial custody
