Hyderabad: There has been a lot of uproar online around the video that shows social media influencer Shaikh Maryam Ali throwing coffee at a staffer of a Calvin Klein store during her tour inside Sarath City Capital Mall. The entire incident was captured and shared by Ali on Instagram, foaming sharp comments by internet users calling for punitive action against her behaviour.
According to Maryam Ali, a female staff member laughed at her while entering the store. From then, Ali approached the employee to confront the other, who denied laughing at Ali. Soon the situation turned sour when the staff told children accompanying Ali to get rid of their drinks and continued their ill-mannered behavior.
Upset, Ali threw her coffee on the employee and issued a follow-up video rant, encouraging everyone to boycott the store for what she called “arrogant and disrespectful” service. The same clip also catches her video in the mall’s restroom as she struggles through to clean coffee stains off her jacket after some landed on her because of the act during the incident.
Social media was ablaze with condemnation of Ali’s actions. Many wanted her banned from the mall and called on Calvin Klein and Sarath City Mall to file a complaint. “People like this should not be allowed to harass staff and get away with it,” one commenter wrote.
Allegedly, the influencer is claiming she was mistreated; however, no official statements are made by the store or mall authority. This video has renewed several debates on customer entitlement, accountability of influencers, and public manners.
