Watch: Israeli satirical comedy show Eretz Nehederet turns Flydubai hijacking attempt into a ‘Fauda in the skies’ spoof
Israeli satirical show Eretz Nehederet has spoofed the reported Flydubai hijacking attempt with a Fauda-inspired sketch. Comedian Eran Zarachovitz portrays plumber Yaniv Hayoun as an unlikely action hero, complete with wrenches, airborne drama and a Star of David.
Hyderabad: Israeli satirical comedy show Eretz Nehederet has turned the reported Flydubai hijacking attempt into a parody of the hit action-thriller series Fauda, serving up a heady mix of airborne drama, improvised heroics and a plumber who seems to have brought his entire toolbox to a terrorist showdown.
The sketch draws on the account of Israeli passenger Yaniv Hayoun, a plumber who reportedly helped foil the attempted hijacking. With plenty of action but no fatalities, the incident offered the show just the right ingredients for one of its trademark Fauda spoofs — especially with a real-life hero whose professional expertise involves fixing leaky pipes rather than taking down terrorists.
Comedian Eran Zarachovitz portrays a version of Fauda star Lior Raz’s action-hero character, reimagined as Hayoun. As the familiar Fauda theme music blares in the background, the plumber gets down to business, calling for various wrenches to subdue the terrorist. Apparently, when trouble strikes at 30,000 feet, it helps to have someone on board who knows his way around a toolbox.
In a moment that plumbers everywhere might recognise, the airborne action hero then tells the woman assisting him that he needs to go to his car to fetch a part. Even in the middle of an alleged hijacking, some professional habits are apparently impossible to shake — although finding a parking spot near an aircraft could prove tricky.
Once the situation is under control in the sketch, the hero takes his airborne theatrics a step further, drawing a Star of David with the plane’s contrails. Because saving the day is one thing; adding a signature flourish to the sky is quite another.
The show promoted the spoof with a reassuringly tongue-in-cheek caption: “The skies have never been safer.”
With its trademark blend of topical satire and over-the-top action, Eretz Nehederet has effectively given Fauda a cabin upgrade — proving that, in the right hands, even a plumber’s wrench can become a prop worthy of an action thriller.
