Hyderabad: A major fire has erupted at the heritage Secunderabad Club building early on Sunday.
According to the fire officials, the fire broke out in the premises around 3 a.m and soon on information fire tenders from different fire stations were rushed to the spot to contain the blaze. The fire fighting operations are still going on at the club.
Fire fighters faced issues in containing the fire as a lot of combustible material kept in the premises helped the blaze become ferocious. The fire might have started due to a short circuit, the officials suspect.
The Secunderabad Club was established in the year 1878 and was originally known as Secunderabad Gymkhana Club. It was established by the British Army in Garrisons in Secunderabad.
The club has various facilities including a bar and food courts, swimming pool and sports facilities. Several programs are organized at the club for members round the year.
Recognized as an Indian Heritage Site in 2017, a postal cover was released. The Secunderabad Club has a staff of 300 and has over 5,000 members.
