Hyderabad: Following a High Court direction, the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) here on Tuesday commenced demolition of part of the academic block and auditorium, both situated in the buffer zone of the Ramammakunta lake. The decision of the NITHM comes after a legal battle over the concerns tied to the protection of the lake.

The court recently issued an order mandating the institute to remove the structures that fell in the FTL and the buffer zone of the lake.

According to the NITHM sources, the academic block and auditorium were within the buffer zone of the lake, and the institute itself took the initiative of removing the structure.

“A part of the auditorium and two classrooms are affected due to demolition that has been undertaken as part the directions of higher authorities,” the NITHM sources said.
