Sangareddy: An outrageous reply from an Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO) after a farmer questioned the delay in releasing Rythu Bharosa sparked protests in Kasala-Doulthabad cluster in Hathnoora mandal on Thursday.
Farmer Srinivas Goud said they had approached AEO Mahendar to enquire when they would get the Rythu Bharosa credited in their accounts. The AEO, instead of giving a proper reply, responded asking them to visit the Sangareddy Collector’s office with pesticide bottle in hand or to immolate themselves as a protest to get Rythu Bharosa. Shocked over the reply, the farmers gathered in their fields holding pesticide bottles in their hands and shot a video to expose the AEO’s response. The farmers demanded immediate suspension of Mahendar for his behavior with farmers.
A video of the farmers went viral on social media. Goud said the AEO had told them that they would get Rythu Bharosa only if one of the farmers sacrificed his life. The farmers also alleged that Mahendar was talking like a political leader supporting a political party. Farmers Prabhu Krishna, Akhil, Krishna, Mallesham and others were present.
