Hyderabad: BRS leaders led by former Minister and senior MLA T Harish Rao staged a sit in protest in Nagarkurnool after they were prevented by the Telangana police from visiting the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel where eight persons are trapped after the roof collapsed on February 22.
Harish Rao along with former Ministers G Jagadish Reddy, S Niranjan Reddy, V Srinivas Goud, former and sitting MLAs along with senior leaders, were on their way to the accident spot, when the police stopped them at a checkpost on the road leading to Domalapenta. They informed the BRS leaders that people were not being allowed to the accident site as it would not only hamper rescue operations, but was also dangerous spot at present.
A heated argument ensued between the police and the BRS leaders, following which Harish Rao and others staged a sit-in protest. Ironically, the police who allowed local leaders, mediapersons and others for the past five days, imposed prohibitive orders within five km radius from the accident site since this morning, after the BRS announced its plans to visit it.
