Siddipet: A day after former Minister T Harish Rao warned the government over the delay in lifting irrigation water to reservoirs in Siddipet, the irrigation department began pumping water into Ranganayaka Sagar by operating one motor on Monday.
At the time of commencement, the project had just one TMCft of water against its full storage capacity of 3 TMCft. This was the first pumping of the season. The delay in lifting water has already led to a sharp fall in the cultivated area across Siddipet district this year.
Harish Rao, however, demanded that the government operate all the motors at Nandi Medaram and Gayathri pump houses to fully tap Godavari water and impound the Annapurna Sagar, Ranganayaka Sagar, Kondapochamma Sagar and Mallanna Sagar reservoirs.
