Hyderabad: A video of a policeman brutally thrashing a youngster who was found loitering at Tolichowki went viral on social media platforms, drawing criticism from citizens.
In the video clip, a policeman working at the Tolichowki police station is seen abusing and caning a youngster who was found hiding behind a car by the police.
According to sources, the man, identified as a local resident, was hanging around with a group of persons near a hotel at Tolichowki and, on noticing the police Blue Colts patrol team, ran away from the spot. The police personnel chased them and caught one of the individuals.
The constable, identified as Gyaneshwar, working at Tolichowki police station, took his fibre lathi and thrashed the man. He was later shifted to the police station. Previously, the man was caught twice by the police and let off after counselling.
When contacted, ACP Golconda Syed Faiz said that three men were found standing near a hotel around 4 am and when police asked them to identify themselves, they abused the policemen and ran away. The constables managed to apprehend one of them. “We have seen the video of the constable abusing and hitting a man. The higher officers have ordered an enquiry and the probe is on,” said the official.
