Khammam: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said that the State government would take steps for the effective utilisation of Krishna river waters.

He, along with Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, released water from the Palair reservoir through the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) left canal for kharif cultivation at Palair in Kusumanchi mandal of the district on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Vikramarka said that irrigation water was being released for NSP Zone-2 ayacut. The government would complete pending projects on the Krishna river such as Kalwakurthy, Nettempadu, Bhima, Koil Sagar, Palamuru-Rangareddy, SLBC, and also construct the new Narayanpet-Kodangal project to maximise the use of Krishna waters, he said.

He noted that due to the heavy floods last year, the NSP left main canal under tunnel (UT) in Palair was damaged. It was repaired and restored on a war-footing basis at a cost ofRs 14.20 crore.

Minister Srinivas Reddy said that water has been released to 2.53 lakh acres of NSP ayacut under Palair reservoir. Currently, 400 cusecs of water is being released, and it would be released at full capacity in five days on a regular basis.
