Hyderabad: The BRS legislators on Tuesday attended the Legislative Assembly and the Council in black clothes and wore handcuffs to mark their protest against the imprisonment of Lagacherla farmers and handcuffing of one of the arrested farmers who was taken to hospital for treatment. They demanded justice for farmers and their immediate release.

The MLAs and MLCs raised slogans condemning the arrest of farmers and demanding their immediate release, as they walked to their respective Houses from the BRS Legislative Party office on the premises. MLAs Gangula Kamalakar, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Dr Sanjay, D Sudheer Reddy and others were in handcuff, while others held placards.

Soon after the Assembly session resumed, the BRS MLAs raised slogans, shaming the Congress government for handcuffing the farmers. However following request from the Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad to cooperate, they stopped slogans and sat in their seats.

In the Council, the BRS MLCs informed the Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy that they were registering protest against the Congress government treating farmers like criminals and handcuffing them even while being taken to hospital for treatment. MLC K Kavitha informed the Chairman that the BRS members were wearing black clothes to protest against the government treating farmers like criminals and handcuffing them while being taken to hospital for treatment. She said they would continue to protest against the arrest of farmers and demanded the government to immediately release them.

Meanwhile, the BRS moved an adjournment motion in the Assembly demanding for discussion on the plight of Lagacherla farmers, and forcible acquisition of agricultural lands from farmers for establishment of industries in the State. The party also sought to discuss about arrest of farmers and the urgent need for their release.
