There are some days when you just want to get out of your pyjamas, put on some makeup, wear a jazzy outfit and hit the town with your girls. And that’s exactly what Vedika M Sonthalia’s label helps you do — it offers quirky designs in vibrant hues that are hand-painted and block printed at their in-house textile unit. Outfits that promise to transform a dull day into a vibrant one.
No wonder then that stars of the likes of Vidya Balan, Kriti Sanon, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker, Genelia D’Souza, Nora Fatehi, Rakul Preet and Taapsee Pannu are often spotted in her outfits.

So, how did it all start for her? Vedika’s grandmother andHydse mother have been in the fashion industry for over two decades. While growing up, she spent a major part of her life in their textile factory and got tremendously inspired. “Naturally, I went to study Fashion Designing in Singapore, and once I came back, I started assisting my mother. That’s how my journey into fashion began — it’s been around five years now. It’s been a learning experience. I moved to Mumbai from Kolkata a few years ago and started my studio here with my husband. While he manages the business, I take care of the creative part,” shares the celeb designer, who has done a lot of shows and exhibitions in Hyderabad.
Vedika’s latest collection is all about hand-painted, floral lehengas and saris. “My approach is more geometric, abstract and floral. I take inspiration from anywhere and everywhere. Sometimes, the most random thing you see on the streets could inspire your next design!,” shares Vedika, adding that comfort wear is going to be the biggest trend in 2021 as well.
So, does her personal style reflect in her designs? “I am actually very basic and simple. It probably matches in terms of colour. If given a choice, I would always wear a shift dress!,” she shares.
