Hyderabad: Even as President Mohammed Azharuddin has said that he will represent the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) in the virtual meeting of the BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM), to be conducted on May 29, secretary R Vijayanand has written a letter to the Board to allow former Test off-spinner and ad-hoc BCCI president N Shivlal Yadav to attend the meeting.
Azharuddin said he will attend the meeting and he will be getting the virtual password. Incidentally, at a SGM held in October 2019, HCA had Azharuddin will represent the association in all the meetings of BCCI. However, Vijayanand pointed out that the decision of Shivlal to attend the meeting was decided in the 85th Annual General Meeting of HCA Rule No 8 (j) of the constitution.
“We have sent an email to the BCCI of Shivlal Yadav being appointed as HCA representative for the May 29 SGM. We have requested BCCI to follow the system and send the virtual password to Shivlal Yadav,” said Vijayanand.
All eyes will be on the BCCI to whom they will allow from HCA to attend the meeting. There seems to no end to the bitter struggle for power. Meanwhile, a day after Azharuddin said the appointment of the CEO is illegal, Vijayanand pointed out due process was followed in the appointment of the Suneel Kante in compliance with the HCA Constitution with full transparency.
“We, the Apex Council members, have taken the decision on the selection of the CEO knowing fully well the pertaining rules to the appointment, Rule 23 (1), (3) and (4).”
Vijayanand said it was advertised in October 2020 and of the applications received, they shortlisted three candidates. Among them was Suneel Kante, who had the best credentials. “The interviews were conducted in March, prior to the 85th Annual General Meeting, and his candidature was fully accepted and approved by a majority of Apex Council members. Subsequently, his name was proposed for the role of CEO in the AGM and was approved,” he said.
Vijayanand further said upon the approval from the AGM, a letter of acceptance was sought from Suneel Kante and an appointment order was issued subsequently and he joined on May 13 in the presence of the vice-president, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer.
The secretary clarified that Kante has extensive experience working with highly reputed global organizations in leadership positions. “His candidature is best suited for our requirements from the applications received and interviews held.”
“It is unfortunate that questions are being raised to discredit the qualification of the CEO and the procedures followed, while we should be welcoming induction of qualified and experienced professionals into our setup for the betterment of the HCA,” he concluded.
