Siddipet: Finance Minister T Harish Rao said on Friday that the government will build hostels for milch buffaloes in several villages of the district to achieve the objective of improving the income of farmers and transform the villages into ‘swachha’ habitations by moving all the cattle out of the village.
The Minister, who inaugurated the first Cattle Hostel at Ponnala near Siddipet, said the administration had already initiated the process for building such hostels at eight other villages since they have got desired results at Ponnala. With an aim to encourage the farmers to take up cattle rearing, Rao said that they were liberally granting the funds from SC Corporation and Sree Sakthi Corporation.
He said that the local villagers can buy healthy milk at relatively low prices from the farmers here. The Minister suggested the officials and local elected representatives to raise the green grass by spending grants from NREGS fund to meet the fodder demand. Appreciating the effort of Bala Vikasa, an NGO, Rao said its Director D Showri Reddy has spent funds to build some of these units.
Director of Animal Husbandry Department Lakshma Reddy said it is the first-of-its-kind of facility in the entire nation. Though the Gujarat government had made an attempt to build some cattle sheds, the Director said that they don’t have such facilities. Saying that the Telanaga government’s efforts sparked a second green revolution in Telangana already, Reddy said that such support from the government will also fuel the white revolution in the State.
Later, the Minister examined the facilities and interacted with the farmers, who shifted their milch buffaloes to the hostel. When the farmers raised the issue of price hike for milk, Rao assured that the price will be increased by talking to the management of Vijaya Dairy. ZP Chairman, V Roja Sharma, Collector P Venkatrami Reddy, DRDO Ch Gopal Rao, DPO Suresh and others were present.
