Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar took part in a protest at Raghunathapalem mandal headquarters in Khammam on Monday.

Khammam: The Centre has adopted anti-farmer policies that were harming the interest of farmers in Telangana, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar said on Monday. He took part in a protest at Raghunathapalem mandal headquarters in the district on Monday following a call for Statewide protests given by TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. Beating drums, the Minister led a protest rally.

The Centre’s inappropriate policy on procurement of paddy must be condemned by everyone. The fight against the BJP government at the Centre would continue until justice was done to the farmers, Ajay Kumar said.

He called upon the farming community in the State to stage agitations until the Centre concedes to the demand of the Telangana government which wanted the Centre to procure entire paddy produced in the State.

The Minister and the TRS workers burnt an effigy of the Centre. Speaking to the media on the occasion, he complained that the BJP leaders were spreading lies on paddy procurement from the State.

BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy should put pressure on Centre to procure paddy produced in Yasangi, he demanded, adding the BJP leaders were not responding to the plight of the famers in the State.

The anti-farmer policies adopted by the Centre would be explained to the people in the State. Telangana government had already procured 51 lakh tonnes paddy; another 30 to 40 lakh tonnes was yet to be procured and the Centre should take steps in that direction, Ajay Kumar said.

Similar protests were held across the district at mandal headquarters. In Kothagudem, ZP Chairman K Kanakaiah and MLA B Haripriya Naik took part in the protest and burnt an effigy of the Centre.
