Haliya: Keeping his promises, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao showered gifts upon the people of the Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly constituency here on Monday.
Participating in Pragathi Sameeksha of the constituency, he announced developmental works worth Rs 150 crore for the Assembly segment including Rs 15 crore each for the development of Nandikonda and Haliya municipalities.
The Chief Minister advised Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy to convene a meeting and obtain proposals from the elected representatives for carrying out various works. “The Nagarjuna Sagar constituency was neglected for several decades, and I felt bad that despite being municipalities, Haliya and Nandikonda have no proper infrastructure. Now, I will give you the taste of development,” he said. The officials were asked to upgrade and equip various primary healthcare centres and hospitals under the government’s health infrastructure development programme.
Funds and land were sanctioned for Reddy Kalyana mandapam and a shaadikhana in Nagarjuna Sagar while funds were allocated for thr construction of Banjara Bhavan. The State government is also gearing up to resolve the Podu lands issue, and an exercise would be launched soon to this effect.
Other works sanctioned include a building for a government degree college, mini stadium and roads among others. Chandrashekhar Rao listed out numerous welfare and developmental programmes taken up by the State government in the past seven years for different sections of society in a planned and phased manner.
Chandrashekhar Rao thanked the people of the constituency for electing TRS candidate Nomula Bhagath in the recent bypoll. He said he could not keep his promise to review the constituency’s development earlier due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Further, directions were issued to regularise the houses constructed in the lands belonging to the Irrigation Department and issue pattas to the occupants of the department’s quarters in the Nandikonda municipality within the next one month. The officials were also instructed to conduct a survey for a lift irrigation scheme at Gurrampodu and sanction its construction along with the Nellikal lift irrigation scheme.
Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy, Council former Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, former Vice-Chairman Nethi Vidyasagar, local MLA Nomula Bhagath, MPs, other MLAs, MLCs and others were present.

Irrespective of political affiliations, sarpanches, ward members, ZPTCs, MPPs and MPTCs exploded in joy giving a big round of applause when Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao showered soaps on the Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly constituency.
Sarpanches and ward members of 110 gram panchayats and ZPTCs and MPPCs of Nidmanoor, Gurrampode, Peddavoora, Anumula, Tripuraram and Tirumalgiri Sagar mandals, Municipal Chairman and councillors of Nandikonda and Haliya municipalities attended the constituency development review meeting.
When the Chief Minister announced Rs 120 crore for the constituency’s development in addition to Rs 15 crore each for Nandikonda and Haliya municipalities, the elected representatives of the local bodies, irrespective of political affiliation, raised slogans of “Jai KCR” and expressed their happiness with applause.
The venue also erupted with slogans praising the Chief Minister when he announced the Gurrampode Lift Irrigation Scheme which ensures irrigation facility to 10,000 acres. The Chief Minister came to the meeting’s venue in a rally, which saw Dalits participate in a big way by beating 100 traditional drums, showing their gratitude to him for taking up Dalit Bandhu.
