Wanaparthy: Stepping up attack on the Centre for ignoring the interests of farmers in the State in procuring paddy, Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was biased towards Telangana which is rapidly progressing in all sectors.

Addressing farmers and party activists during dharna at RDO office in Wanaparthy, he said the Centre was not encouraging Telangana, which was producing highest paddy compared to other States in the country.

He said the Central government had failed to come to the rescue of lakhs of farmers, who are protesting against farm laws.

He said the Centre had enacted farm laws without mentioning about the minimum support price. “We maintained patience till now but from now on we will not tolerate,” Reddy said. The Centre was hesitating to procure paddy from Telangana but at the same time waived loans taken by influential defaulters.

It was the TRS government, which constructed various irrigation projects and ensured supply of water to the agriculture sector in the State. But the Central government was rendering injustice to farmers in Telangana by failing to procure paddy, he said.

“As a responsible government, we asked farmers not to go for paddy in Yasangi. However, a few irresponsible persons in the State were unnecessarily instigating farmers,” he said.
