Siddipet: A day after former Minister T Harish Rao wrote a letter to Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy demanding the lifting of Kaleshwaram water from Mid-manair to reservoirs in Siddipet district, irrigation department officials announced that they would not be able to release irrigation water to the ayacut under Ananthagiri Sagar, Ranganayaka Sagar, Mallanna Sagar and Kondapochamma Sagar.

During a review meeting of the irrigation advisory committee conducted at Siddipet collectorate on Tuesday, Gajwel Circle Chief Engineer Shiva Dharma Teja announced that the water available in these reservoirs would be sufficient only for drinking water needs. The Siddipet farmers cultivated paddy on 4.82 lakh acres during the 2025 Vanakalam. However, the farmers have completed transplantation only on 70,000 acres so far in the district. District Collector K Hymavathi called upon the farmers to switch to alternative crops. Even though BRS MLC Dr V Yadava Reddy demanded that the officials release irrigation water by pumping it from Mid-manair, he did not get any assurance from them.
