Adilabad: Former Minister Jogu Ramanna on Sunday announced that BRS cadres, along with soy farmers, would obstruct Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy if he toured Adilabad district on January 8.

Addressing media persons here, Ramanna said soy farmers were struggling to sell their produce due to the failure of both the State and Union governments to take steps for smooth procurement of soybeans.

He expressed concern that farmers were facing a severe crisis, with some even resorting to suicide. He asserted that the BRS would always stand by the farmers and declared that they would lay siege to the Collectorate on Monday.

Calling for a bandh, or closure of commercial establishments, on Tuesday, the former minister said the BRS would protest and obstruct Revanth Reddy’s visit if he toured the district on January 8.

He urged farmers to chase away leaders of both the Congress and the BJP for failing to address their problems. He also noted that farmers were angry with local MLA Payal Shankar.

Ramanna alleged that Shankar was purchasing lands attached by the Enforcement Directorate and amassing assets through illegal means.

He also criticised MP Nagesh for not exerting pressure on the Centre to address the problems of soy farmers. He said farmers were unable to sell their produce due to restrictions imposed by the Union government.
