Kumram Bheem Asifabad: In-charge Superintendent of Police Ch Praveen Kumar asked the district police officials to check the menace of gutkha, ganja and illicitly distilled liquor. Addressing the meeting with the district police officers on Friday, Praveen Kumar said the police should act tough against drug peddlers and intensify the vigil. He asked them to form a network to control the cultivation of the ganja crops in rural areas. Policemen should visit villages and keep a tab on youngsters who are falling to the drugs. The officer warned that the Prevention of Detention Act could be invoked against the drug peddlers and those raising marijuana crops.

The Ramagundam Commissioner of Police S Chandrasekhar Reddy instructed the police personnel to use drone cameras to clamp down the menace of ganja cultivation across the district. He conducted a virtual meeting with police officials belonging to Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts. Chandrasekhar Reddy said that the police should be ready to wipe out the menace. He also warned that stern action would be taken against those policemen who collude with offenders.

He said special teams would be formed to check ganja smuggling and that cash rewards would be given to informants and policemen who work in the field.
