Hyderabad: Two unidentified men, posing as cops, robbed four youngsters at gunpoint in a lodge at Medchal late on Sunday. Police said they used a toy pistol to commit the crime.
According to the police, one Manikanta along with his friends Srihari and Samson went for gambling in a lodge on the invitation of Akhil, the organiser at 10 pm. While they were busy playing, two men posing as police personnel barged into their room and threatened them.
“They beat the youngsters with lathis and brandished a pistol, which was later found to be a toy, and fled with Rs 2.5 lakh and other valuables from them,” said M Praveen Reddy, Inspector (Medchal), adding that the victims were terrified by the armed suspects and did not try to resist their attempts.
Based on a complaint from Manikanta, the Medchal police booked a case and verified footage from surveillance cameras. “We were able to get some concrete clues and are hoping to nab them soon,” the Inspector said.
