Woman alleges rape by lab technician in Hyderabad

The incident occurred when she and her sister visited Gandhi Hospital along with her brother-in-law to consult a doctor on August 4.

Hyderabad: A woman approached the police here on Monday alleging she and her sister were kidnapped, confined and raped for four days by a lab technician at the Gandhi Hospital.

The woman in her thirties from Mahabubnagar district, in her complaint to the Chilkalguda police said the incident occurred when she and her sister visited Gandhi Hospital along with her brother-in-law to consult a doctor on August 4.


According to the police, the suspect identified as Uma Maheshwar, a lab technician, confined the two sisters in a room and raped them for four days. The woman also said that while she managed to escape from the suspect, her sister had gone missing.

It is learnt that the woman approached the Mahabubnagar Town-I police first and later lodged a complaint with the Chilkalguda police here. Police said Uma Maheshwar had gone absconding.

A senior police official said a case was booked and the victim was sent for medical examination and for also psychological help to the Bharosa Centre.
