Karimnagar: A woman cricketer from Karimnagar, Katta Srivalli, has been selected to the Hyderabad team which will play in the BCCI Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy at Ahmedabad from December 4.

She is one among 15 players who were selected by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) selection committee at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on Saturday.

A passionate fast bowler, she was selected for the team after an excellent performance in bowling selections.

A resident of Sripuram colony here, Srivalli developed interest in the game while playing cricket with a friend when she was in Class III.

When she was in Class V, she used to play cricket along with boys after getting permission from the school management. Noticing her passion for the game, PET teacher Raheem used to give special coaching to the girl. She used to practice from 3.30 pm by getting permission from school authorities.

Not only in cricket, she also excelled in studies and passed SSC with 87 percent marks. Since it is not possible to continue practice while attending regular college, she was admitted in open Intermediate course by her parents. She is now an intermediate second year student.

Srivalli played in national level School Games Federation competitions held in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh in 2019. In 2022, she played for HCA under-19 team in a competition held in Pune.

Speaking to Telangna Today, Srivalli said that she managed to secure a place in the Hyderabad team with the support of her parents and coach. Informing that becoming the world’s fastest woman bowler was her aim, she said she would strive hard to achieve the goal.

Katta Laxman Reddy, her father, expressed happiness over the selection of his daughter for the Hyderabad team. Right from childhood, she was passionate about cricket. Noticing her interest, they joined her in a coaching centre in Hyderabad. She proved her talent by securing a place in the Hyderabad team, he said.

While Laxman Reddy is a government teacher, Srivalli’s mother Umarani is a homemaker.
