Hyderabad: A domestic dispute allegedly ended in tragedy after a woman jumped into an agricultural well with her two children, killing herself and her teenage daughter, while her son survived, at Kothapally village in Shankarpally, Rangareddy district, on Thursday night.
The victims were identified as Vasantha (35) and her daughter Navya (15).
According to police, Vasantha had been staying with her husband, U Sudhakar, a native of Yalal mandal, at Kothapally village in Shankarpally for the past decade. Sudhakar, who earned a livelihood as a farm worker, frequently consumed alcohol and often quarrelled with his wife. Vasantha was upset over the recurring domestic disputes.
After one such argument on Thursday night, Vasantha allegedly took her two children to a nearby agricultural well and jumped in with them. Her son, Venu (10), managed to cling to a tree branch inside the well and remained there until his father, who had gone searching for the family after they went missing, heard his cries and rescued him.
By the time locals and police reached the spot on Friday morning, Vasantha and Navya had drowned.
The bodies were retrieved from the well and shifted to Chevella Government Hospital for autopsy.
Shankarpally police are investigating.
