Jagtial: A 25-year-old woman, Nallamothu Harshitha, died by suicide after her plans to pursue higher studies in the United States fell through.
Police said Harshitha, a resident of Hasnabad in Jagtial urban mandal, had completed her graduation and aspired to study in the US. She applied for admission after consulting acquaintances but was denied a visa as she had applied to an ineligible university. She reportedly lost about Rs.10 lakh in visa processing and related expenses.
After her US plans failed, Harshitha planned to study in Germany and informed her father, Srinivas, but he rejected the idea. Distressed over his refusal, she consumed pesticides on August 6. She was admitted to a private hospital in Karimnagar, where she died during treatment on Tuesday.
Police registered a case based on a complaint from her father and have begun an investigation.
