Woman farmer in Warangal displays flex banner exposing plight of farmers in Telangana

A woman farmer from Venkatapuram in Warangal’s Duggondi mandal has appealed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for support after water shortages affected her crops. She said her irrigation well dried up, forcing her family to abandon crops and face mounting loans

Warangal: Highlighting the plight of farmers in Telangana, a woman farmer from Venkatapuram village in Duggondi mandal has put up a flex banner urging Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to support farmers.

The farmer, Lakshmi, put up the banner at her field, explaining the hardships her family was facing due to a lack of rains that had affected crop growth. She said their irrigation well had dried up and there was no water in an irrigation canal in the village.

As a result, the family abandoned the crops for which they had taken loans from banks and private lenders. With lenders now knocking on their door, the family has been seeking help from the government, she said.

Lakshmi urged the Chief Minister to extend a helping hand to farmers like her and save their livelihoods. A video of the banner in the field was widely shared on social media, highlighting the plight of farmers in the State and alleging government inaction in supporting them.

It may be noted that farmers across the State have been forced to take to the streets seeking regular power supply for irrigation and water for their crops, amid allegations of government failure to address their concerns.

Former minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar alleged that the State government had failed to plan ahead despite prior knowledge of the impending El Niño impact. He expressed concern over the plight of farmers in the State due to shortages of irrigation water and electricity.
