Hyderabad: Disgruntled that her father-in-law was not giving attention to her son, a woman allegedly fed acid to her nephew at Medipally in the city outskirts a week ago. The incident came to light on Thursday after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the police.

According to the police, the suspect, Manjula, stayed along with her husband and children at Srinivasa Colony in Boduppal under the Medipally police station limits.

On April 9, she took Nagaraju (4), son of her husband’s younger brother, on the pretext of giving him chocolate and allegedly fed him acid. On coming to know about it, the child’s parents, father Santosh Kumar and mother Anjamma, shifted the boy to a private hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

The parents of the boy complained to the police that the woman had previously also attempted to kill their son out of frustration. They alleged that Manjula was jealous that the victim’s grandfather had tattooed the name of the boy on his hand.

The police registered a case and are investigating.
