Hyderabad: The Balapur police arrested five persons, including the mother of a one-month-old baby boy, on charges of selling him. The toddler’s mother had allegedly put him up for sale due to financial problems.
The woman, Najma Begum alias Salma Begum (24) from Shaheen Nagar delivered the child on January 22 and was staying with her mother at Jirra in Tappachabutra. She had separated from her husband after frequent disputes.
According to the police, Salma Begum found it difficult to take care of the child and decided to sell him. She was approached by Mohd Khan (38), an auto-rickshaw driver from Shaheen Nagar, who promised to sell the child for Rs.2.5 lakh.
He then called his accomplices, Taslim Begum (34) and Nadiya Begum (30) from Jeedimetla and Mohd.Haji from Jalpally, who agreed to help him.
“She handed over the child to the gang, who then handed him over to a couple from Jeedimetla for Rs.2.5 lakh,” officials said. The infant’s mother then staged a kidnap drama and approached the Tappachabutra police on January 23, stating her child was kidnapped.
The Tappachabutra police booked a ‘Zero FIR’ case and on the basis of jurisdiction, transferred it to the Balapur police station. The police, based on suspicion, questioned the mother, who confessed to selling her child. The baby has been handed over to Shishu Vihar authorities.
