Warangal: In a shocking incident, a woman and her husband allegedly doused a man with petrol and set him ablaze in broad daylight at Ashoka Chowrasta in front of the district Congress office in Hanamkonda on Friday. One more person too sustained injuries in the same incident. Both the injured have been immediately rushed to private a hospital nearby by the passersby. The duo who sustained burns has been shifted to hospital.
Police said Raju, who runs a cell phone shop at Ashoka Chowrasta in Hanamkonda, subscribed to a chit worth Rs 5 lakh in a chit fund company on persuasion by an agent Ganesh. When Raju needed money he wanted the chit amount to be given to him, but the management delayed payment for months. Vexed with the apathy of the chit fund company staff, Raju on Thursday went to its branch and created a scene and tried to close down the office. Following this, chit fund company staff reprimanded the agent for his failure to convince Raju to wait for some more time.
Later Ganesh and his wife were alleged to have gone to Raju’s shop and doused him with petrol and set him ablaze. As flames erupted, the shop was also gutted in the incident. Meanwhile, one Rangaiah, owner of a nearby pan shop too sustained burns. “We have registered an attempt to murder case,” said Hanamkonda Inspector V Venumadhav adding that they were trying to nab the accused who fled from the scene.
