Khammam: A woman was murdered, allegedly by her relatives, at Muthagudem under Yedulapuram Municipality limits in the district.

According to locals, a resident of the village, Motapothula Venkanna, married off his daughter Akhila to Guniganti Mahesh of the same village three years ago. There were frequent fights between Mahesh and Akhila since last year.

Family panchayats were held several times in the presence of elders to resolve the matter, but in vain. In due course, Mahesh applied for divorce and reportedly got the same from the court. On Monday, Venkanna, his son Manoj, and brother-in-law Yaldi Venkanna went to Mahesh’s house and asked Mahesh to accept his daughter back as his wife. A minor argument broke out among them.

The trio returned home, went back to Mahesh’s house carrying sticks and knives, and attacked Mahesh, who was stabbed in the stomach and the back. When Mahesh’s mother, Nagamani (50), tried to stop them, they attacked her too, killing her on the spot.

With the help of locals, Mahesh was taken to the government hospital for treatment. On learning about the incident, Rural ACP Tirupathi Reddy and Khammam Rural CI M Raju visited the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
