Hyderabad: A woman allegedly killed her one-year-old son by slitting his wrist and neck with a blade and later jumped from a building along with the child at Mettuguda on Monday. The condition of the woman was stated to be critical.

The woman, T. Divya (32), was married to T. Mahendra (33), a chartered accountant in 2018. They stayed with their son Ruthvik at New Mettuguda. According to the police, on Monday, she took a blade and inflicted cuts on both the wrists and neck of the child and forcefully fed a sanitizer to the child.

“She then cut her wrist and neck also , consumed the sanitizer and along with her son, went to the fourth floor of a building opposite her house, from where she jumped,” DCP (North) Chandana Deepti said.

Local people informed the Chilkalguda police, who found that the child was dead and shifted the mother to hospital. Enquiries revealed that Mahendra was harassing Divya and asking for money to construct a house. Relatives said he was already given 10 tolas of gold, Rs. 4 lakh and other articles as dowry.

“We came to know that he was maintaining a relationship with another woman also and harassing Divya. She could have slipped into depression over this and resorted to the act,” the DCP said, adding that Mahendra was taken into custody.

Two cases were registered and investigation is on.
