Mancherial: A woman and three others were arrested for allegedly staging a murder of her husband as a road accident to claim insurance benefit at Gudipet village. Police seized a two-wheeler, cash Rs 25,000 and a hammer from them.

Briefing details of the arrests on Tuesday, DCP A Baskar said that Saini Bharati, Ram Mallesh, a daily-wage earner, and Lagishetti Surendar, a businessman, all from Gudipet and Sriram Kumar from Mancherial town were apprehended in connection with the murder of Saini Kumar (40), a farmer.

Bhaskar stated that Bharati confessed to committing the offence to remove an obstacle to her affair with Surender and to claim insurance benefit of around Rs 2 crore under accidental death. She admitted to hiring Mallesh for Rs 10 lakh to execute her plan. She revealed that she paid Rs 2 lakh as an advance to him. She told police that she wanted to eliminate her husband as he was torturing her after getting addicted to liquor.

Mallesh admitted to bludgeoning Kumar to death by forcing him to drink excess liquor with the help of Sriram Kumar. at Mulkalla village on May 22. He disclosed that they dumped the body on a road and placed a two-wheeler to stage the murder as an accident, misleading police and his family members.

However, the victim’s parents lodged a complaint suspecting Mallesh’s involvement in the death of their son. A case was registered. Led by Mancherial ACP R Prakash, police took up investigations and exposed involvement of the four using technology. Bhaskar commended Prakash, Investigating officer Ravinder and SI Kiran Kumar for unravelling the mystery behind the murder.
