Hyderabad: A woman, who allegedly attempted to die by suicide at the Saroornagar Lake, was rescued by M Eswaraiah, Home Guard Officer of Saroornagar police on Thursday afternoon. This was the 12th such rescue by Eswaraiah in the last six months.
The woman, aged 30 years and a private employee from Nagole, was reportedly depressed over family problems and decided to end her life. She came to the tank and tried to end her life by jumping into it. Her family members learned that she was on the way to the lake and informed the Saroornagar police, after which Eswaraiah, the home guard officer who was on duty at the police outpost in the area, rushed to the spot.
“He reached her within a few minutes of being alerted and saw her almost drowning in the lake. He jumped into the water and pulled her out of the water,” police said, adding that she was given first-aid before being shifted to the hospital, where her condition was stated to be stable. Her family members too were informed.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat appreciated Eswaraiah for his timely response and said he would be suitably rewarded.
Eswaraiah has now saved at least 12 lives in the last six months, officials said, with most of them being of those who tried to die by suicide in the lake.
