Kumram Bheem Asifabad: In a tragic incident, a woman and her five year and old son were killed, while three others sustained injuries when a truck rammed into an auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling at Devulagudem village in Rebbena mandal on Thursday night.

Rebbena Sub-Inspector P Bhavani Sen said that the deceased persons were identified as Mukkera Rajitha (30) of Tenugugudem village in Asifabad mandal and her son Ganesh. The injured were her family members Pambala Krishna, Pambala Laxmi and Mukkera Srikanth, the auto-rickshaw driver.

Rajitha and Ganesh sustained fatal injuries and others received minor injuries when the truck coming from the opposite direction mowed down the auto-rickshaw on the outskirts of Devulagudem at around 10.30 pm. Death was instant for Rajitha. Ganesh succumbed to the wounds while being shifted to a hospital in Bellampalli.

The five were returning after visiting a village deity at Ellaram village in Kannepalli mandal of Mancherial district at the time of the mishap.

Rebbena Inspector Satheesh Kumar and Bhavani Sen rushed to the spot on learning about the mishap. They suspected that rash and negligent driving by the driver of the truck caused the accident. They took steps to ensure the injured were shifted to a hospital and get treatment. A pall of gloom descended over the family following the two accidental deaths.

Based on a complaint received from family members of the victims, a hit-run case was registered against the driver of the lorry, who was absconding following the accident. A hunt was launched for nabbing the accused. Investigations were taken up.
