Hyderabad: A woman from Balanagar was allegedly threatened at knife-point and raped by an auto-rickshaw driver in SR Nagar. The suspect had allegedly promised to help her in securing bail for her husband, who was recently arrested, police said.

The suspect Mohd Jahangir belonged to the same neighbourhood and was a friend of the victim’s husband.

Police said he often visited came to her house to meet her husband. In August last year, her husband was arrested in a drug-related case and was jailed.

“Jahangir promised to help her by arranging a lawyer and get her husband bail. She believed him,” said an official, adding that in the same month, Jahangir took her to a lodge at Ameerpet and at knifepoint, raped her after confining her in the room. He threatened to kill her son if she revealed it to anyone.

The victim approached the Balanagar police as Jahangir continued to harass her. The Balanagar police booked a Zero FIR and subsequently transferred the case to SR Nagar on point of jurisdiction on Wednesday. The SR Nagar police booked a case and started investigation. Efforts are on to nab the suspect.
