Women grill V Hanumantha Rao over one tola gold promise
Senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao faced questions from women in Sircilla over the party’s promise of one tola gold under the Kalyanalaxmi scheme. The women alleged the promise was forgotten after the party came to power.
Rajanna-Sircilla: Senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao was grilled by women over the party’s promise of one tola gold in Sircilla town on Saturday.
Hanumantha Rao was participating in the municipal election campaign at the Shanthinagar locality when the incident occurred. As he was addressing the gathering, some women questioned him about the one tola gold promised by the Congress party.
Ahead of the elections, the Congress had promised to provide one tola gold along with Rs one lakh financial assistance for the marriage of poor women under the Kalyanalaxmi scheme.
However, the ruling party had forgotten its promise after coming to power, the women alleged, and demanded to know when the government would fulfil the assurance of providing one tola gold.
Responding to the demand, V Hanumantha Rao shifted the blame, claiming that it was difficult to provide gold as the previous government had pushed the State into debt. He later left the spot, assuring the women that he would bring their demand to the notice of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
